Fidyah means the price paid to relieve someone from a distressing situation. As a religious term, it refers to the financial price paid for not being able to perform the worship of fasting or for the elimination of some defects committed during the performance of the pilgrimage. Those who cannot afford to fast should pay a ransom of one poor person's sustenance.” (Baqara, 2/184). If a person who is unable to fast due to old age or an illness that has no hope of cure is unable to make up the fasts later, he pays a ransom for each day. A fidyah is the amount of food that would feed one person for one day, or its equivalent. This is the same amount as “sadaqa al-fitr”.
Our team, which provides aid in many regions of Africa where hunger and food deprivation are at the highest level, will be on duty to personally deliver your zakat, fitrah and ransom every day during Ramadan in order to be a guest at the tables of our brothers and sisters and to hold their hands. If you want to sit at the same table with our brothers and sisters, share the same plate with them and be instrumental in the sustenance that will enter their homes by delivering your zakat, you can deliver your donations to us.
